Portrait Number 2

Portrait number 2 of my 30 portraits in 30 days was with Mason, a competitor for the Crossfit Games. We decided to capture him in our gym Oakland County Crossfit. The lights took me a few minutes to set up, but once we started these shots took less than 15 minutes. I also had just done the workout so it was almost like I was at the end of a long wedding day with how exhausted I felt from the workout.

Mason’s favorite quote “The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary. ~ Vince Lombardi”

Mason told me his favorite movement was the squat snatch. I chose to light this scene with 3 speedlights. I choose speedlights on a wedding day because they are super compact and create all of the light I need. Two speedlights on either side of Mason at about a 60 degree angle from the camera. You can get away with this sharp of an angle with men because the harsh light and hard angles have a more masculine feel. The third light was gridded and aiming for the Oakland County Crossfit sign in the back to light it up.
