What is your song? I’m a sucker for a great story about a couple’s song. I ask this question of bride’s and grooms often in order to gain a bit of insight into their love for one another.
Here’s a list of some of the recent songs and the stories behind them:
Jack Johnson – Banana Pancakes. This is Nikki and Paul’s song (I’m so excited to capture their big day next year.) The groom proposed in the morning over breakfast where he made her some banana pancakes. When Nikki told me this story I could feel the emotion and I felt like I was there watching her see the ring for the first time over top of the pancakes. I can’t wait to be walking around the dance floor capturing them dance to this song for the first time as husband and wife.
The Fray – You Found Me This song has been playing all summer and it seems every time Samer and Kelly turn on the radio this song is playing to them.
Tim McGraw – My Best Friend This is Kelly and Matt’s (pictured below) song and I first found out when they were dancing in front of me at their wedding a couple weeks ago. Watching them dance together was one of the many emotional moments of the night, and I was fortunate to be the one photographing it. Kelly and Matt, if you are reading this, tell us your story about how this became your song. I’m dieing to find out.
Dolly Parton – Love is like a butterfly This is one of the songs my bride and I danced to during our wedding (there were two songs which made our guests rustle a bit, but we didn’t care it was our big day.) It came to me on a cassette tape (remember cassette tapes? ) while I was a camp counselor. We were apart for most of our first summer together and would right letters back and forth. One day I received a cassette tape in the mail and it was my Julie talking to me. At the end of the one sided conversation she played this song for me, and at that moment it became one of our songs. Dancing with her on our wedding day to this song brought back all of the emotions from that first summer together and the love we shared for each other. It was truly special and the song really touches me every time I hear it.
*sings*
Love is like a butterfly
The multicolored moods of love are like its satin wings
Love makes your heart feel strange inside
It flutters like soft wings in flight
Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing
Ok, Dolly sings it way better than me, but you get the idea. What’s your song, and what’s your story behind it?
