Oakland County Crossfit Games

Sorry for a non-wedding post, but I had the complete honor of photographing the Crossfit games at Oakland County Crossfit yesterday and it was a life altering experience. The stamina and athleticism these Crossfitter’s have is simply awe inspiring. It makes me re-evaluate my P90X workouts.

I so want to do this.

The money raised during the Crossfit Games were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. There are a lot of soldiers out there that are home and unable to get work because of injuries, and the Wounded Warrior Project really helps them.

Lake Orion vs Grand Blanc 2010

Lake Orion blasted past Grand Blanc last Friday in a huge 54 to 14 playoff win. The story of the game was Marques Stevenson rushing for 283 yards and four touchdowns. He would get the ball and explode through the defensive line like they were’nt there. It was a mazing to witness and capture with the camera. This is my favorite shot of the game showing Marques splitting the field in two and making his way all the way to the end zone. [view all of the photos from the game here]

Lake Orion vs Davison 2010

I’m off to a wedding again today, but wanted to post these pictures from yesterday’s playoff game against Davison before I left for the day. This 38 to 14 victory was a nice one to witness and we’re looking forward to next week’s game against Grand Blanc. [View all of the photos from the game]

Lake Orion vs Clarkston Football 2010

As many of you may know I love sports photography as much as I love photographing weddings, and this capture from Friday Night’s Lake Orion win over Clarkston is one of my favorites of the year. The moon was low in the horizon and warmed up by the beautiful sunset. It was a perfect night for football and it was great to see them gain home field advantage for the playoffs. The Catch

My camera has been busy lately. In the past two days with the football game and a wedding my camera has been going on overtime. I’ll be posting images from Saturday’s wedding in a day or so including an awesome picture of the bridal party bowling. You got it, bowling. When it’s raining outside and the bride wants to go bowling It’s good to have sports photography skills under my belt. For now I wanted to share this image from Friday’s Lake Orion Football game vs Troy. Lake Orion didn’t give Troy much of a chance in this 45-0 win, and this is one example why. Here’s Zach Zott and his one handed grab for the first touchdown of the night. I’d never seen anything like it in person and was so glad I had the right position on the field to capture it.

Ward Youth Bowling Team 2009

The balls were wizzing by me as I stood at the end of the bowling alley today. The orbs were smacking into the pins just a few feet from where I was perched with my camera and it was amazing! I really enjoy sports photography because it’s a true documentary art form that requires observation, understanding of the subject, and photographic technique. This was my first opportunity to capture the sport of bowling and I learned a lot about what works photographically. Initially I thought that the best shots would be from the end of the alley looking at the faces of the bowlers as they threw the balls, but after observing the whole match I found the best shots are on the side where you can see the entire form of the throw.

Special thanks to Airway Lanes for allowing me to walk to the end of the lanes to get some of these photographs.

Lake Orion vs Clarkston Football

I know this game was a couple of weeks ago, but I had to share some of these photos with you. All of the photos can be viewed at the following website [Lake Orion vs Clarkston Photos] Lake Orion had a great season, and losing to Clarkston during the first playoff game was tough. I had a great time on the sidelines this year capturing the players and the action. The sights, sounds, smells, and emotion was a lot of fun to photograph, and I feel honored to have been there.

This final shot is my last photo of the season. The walk to the bus after a defeat is a long one.

Lake Orion vs Rochester Adams 2009

On Friday, the Lake Orion Dragons played host to Rochester Adams in this pre-playoff matchup. The game was back and forth score wise and a pleasure to be on the field photographing it.
