Merry Christmas

Santa has come and gone.  The kids are all still in their pajamas, and we are spending the day like it should be spent. Doing nothing.   And it’s wonderful.   Ok, maybe not nothing, we watched the movie “Up”…….Squirrel!!!!!  I hope your Christmas is as wonderful and relaxing as ours has been.

Enjoy the season and have a Merry Christmas.

Family Lifestyle Portraits – Auburn Hills

November turned out to be a great month for family portraits. The weather here in Michigan cooperated just enough to give us some beautiful weekend days for getting out in the world and seeing what it has to offer photographically. I met this family in Auburn Hills and we drove to this park for some family photos. Cooperation was not the word I would describe for this young man, so we captured him doing what he does best. Playing, running, and getting dirty.

My Daughter, the Hero

She played in front of a crowd of people without a fear. 7 years ago her mom and I had fears that she would never make it, and now here she stands in front of a crowd playing a version of “Rock Around The Clock.” Her brothers, parents, Team in Training team members, and even her piano teacher sat in the audience with smiles on their faces, and they clapped when the song was over. We all clapped, and as she held her music and stood on stage the grin on her face was priceless.

Honored Hero Playing Piano

Makes me think of that song Daughter by Laudon Wainwright.  “That’s my daughter in the water, everything she knows I taught her.   Everything she knows.”

Being Thankful

I have so many things to be thankful for that I think I’d fill several pages worth of things. On the day after Thanksgiving I’m reviewing photographs and memories from yesterday and the thing I’m most thankful for is family.

Thanks to my bride for getting up at 4am and cooking the most amazingly tender turkey.

Thanks to my brother and his family for driving many miles to spend the holiday with us.

Thanks to our parents for bringing dishes to pass and being a part of the celebration.

Thanks for my cousin Chris for stopping by (even if he wrote his name in the dirt on the back of our van.)

Here are a few photos from our Thanksgiving celebration. The first is my favorite. Sparkie knows exactly where to sit during the meal.

This last one is my nephew. Is he a football player or a Baby Gap model? You decide.

Baby Devin – Infant portrait

Baby Devin joined us in this in this world a week ago and I had an amazing opportunity to capture him at three weeks old.  No flash, no surprises, just natural sunlight and some parents that love him. These new parents have no idea what is ahead of them, and that’s the most amazing part of it all. I had a great time listening to them talk about their experiences at the hospital and all of the new things they are learning already about parenthood. We had to take a break from shooting due to a gift in the diaper, and dad was the one that took the baby away to change him. This boy has some amazing parents and he has no idea how lucky he is.
